What if I didn’t earn any income and therefore I didn’t file …
I heard I could get this “Economic Stimulus”…Is this true?
If so, How would I go about getting it?

I would think that if the Child Support Enforcement Agency placed an IRS intercept on the social of the sorry bum, then you should get it….not sure. For the one with the comment about be happy to get one check, I have an 18 year old that has never gotten a dime. He owes about 30k in support and I can’t get anyone to help. Even when the guy was in jail, they would not set a court date for the support. You pay for 2 kids to go to college and support them by yourself for 18 years and see how many checks you want!

well, the stimulus rebate check will estimate what you are going to get based on how you file your 2007 taxes, but it is REALLY based on your 2008 taxes. So, if they see that you claimed your child for 2007, you’ll get the extra $300. The honest thing to do would probably be to split it between you and your ex.

If we take turns claiming our child for tax purposes and this is not my year will I still be able to get the child portion of the tax credit? Next year is my turn to file with child.

Jmom,
The IRS and child support enforcement agencies are completely separate entities. Child support is handled on a state/local level. The IRS has no legal athority to simply hand over his check- or any portion of it- to you. If you want to alert the agency handling your case, you may notify them that he recieved a check, which raised his income etc, and they may decide to pursue it from there. The only possible reason the IRS witholds money from someone is if that person owes the IRS. They are not in the business of settling domestic issues. Be glad you will recieve a check of your own. Do your job as their mother and spend it on your children- and let the respective agencies do theirs.

What if my ex owes me backsupport will I get his check? Also he is now married no children of their own. Will I still get his check and how much of it will I get he’s over 2,000 behind plus owes me over 1,000 in medical expen… How will his rebate be handled?
