Making Money From Blogging (Part 1 of 2)

By Erik Folgate

Most of you are aware that there are a growing amount of people in the “blogosphere” that make a full-time income from blogging.  I still feel new when it comes to blogging, because I learn something new every day.  Blogging is the media of the 21st century.  I am convinced that it will dominate information for years to come.  The fact that all I have to do is write something and press “publish” without any web coding on my part, still baffles me.  Because blogging has become such a huge information medium, people are starting to capitalize off the popularity.  Advertisers want a part of the blogging community, and they want it now.

Giant affiliate advertising programs like Google Adsense, Chitika, and Ad Brite are helping experienced bloggers to cash in on their high-traffice sites.  However, affiliate advertising is only the beginning when it comes to making money off of advertising.  Higher traffic sites will attract direct advertising campaigns from companies with deep pockets.  Some companies will pay hundreds or thousands just for a text link on a popular blog.

Advertising is only one way to make money from blogging.  Some bloggers are offered to sell their blogs to larger companies looking to turn a bigger profit or gain exposure from an established fan base.  Believe it or not, blogs are being handled like real estate.  There are people in the business of flipping blogs.  Much like flipping real estate, an individual will create a niche blog, create quality content, build traffic, and then sell it for a profit.

Another way to make money from blogging is to be a professional blogger/writer.  Many companies are looking for individuals to write for their blogs, because the company does not want to deal with coming up with fresh content each day.  This is the easiest way to make decent side income if you have decent writing skills and a passion for the topic you are writing about.  Look for this profession to gain a lot of popularity over the next 5 years.

Part 2:  Tomorrow, I will go into more detail about starting your own blog and how to go about getting writing jobs for a blog.

Two Most Recommended Sites About Blogging and How to Make Money from Blogging:

Problogger.net - This is one of the leading blogs on the net that covers all aspects of the blogging experience from how to make your blog better to how to monetize your blog.  This site also has a great job posting page for those interested in writing for other blogs.

Bloggingpro.com – I just met someone that helps manages this site and others from the bloggynetwork.com network of blogs.  They seem to really have it together and this is one of their flagship sites.  This site is another great source to answer all of your questions about blogging, blogging software, and tips and tricks for blogging.
