Online Tax Filing 2010 Giveaway – Win A Free Apple iPad!

By Money Crashers

Don’t forget, you can enter even if you’ve already filed your taxes. Just sign up for the contest below and forward us your tax confirmation e-mail (details below).

Welcome to the personal finance event that will bring you some much-needed excitement this tax season. Seriously. We’re giving away 3 brand new Apple iPads to Money Crashers readers.

File your taxes online by the April 15th tax deadline, and win one of the hottest new gadgets around. All you need to do is file your taxes online using one of our links to our 3 favorite tax filing services (*and even if you’ve already filed, you can still enter by simply sending us your tax confirmation e-mail*).

How the Contest Works

We’re giving away 3 Apple iPads (16GB with Wi-Fi) valued at $499 each.

The contest runs through April 15, 2010 and the 3 winners will be selected by a random draw on April 16, 2010.

To participate in the contest, all you have to do is perform certain actions that gain you more entries. The more entries you have, the higher your chances of winning an Apple iPad.

Below is a step by step guide of how it works.

1. Sign up for the free Money Crashers contest mailing list (required).

This is required in order to enter the contest so that we can keep track of your name, email, and Twitter username for the participation list. We will also send you updates to the contest via email including the list of winners. This is a separate list from previous contests, so you will need to sign up again for this specific giveaway even if you were part of a previous one. Signing up gets you 1 entry.

This list will never be sold and we will never send anything that resembles spam. Promise!

2. Subscribe to the Money Crashers RSS feed.

We release daily personal finance posts through the RSS feed with useful tips on how to budget and manage your money – including strategies for getting the most out of your tax return. You won’t want to miss out.

Subscribe to the RSS feed now. We’ll give you 20 extra entries if you subscribe via email through the form below (i.e. you’ll receive daily digests in your inbox of the latest Money Crashers articles).

3. Collect Entries

You can increase your chances of winning an Apple iPad by collecting additional entries for the contest. Check out the list of actions below. For example, joining the mailing list is required and will gain you 1 entry, subscribing to our RSS feed via email will get you 20 entries, tweeting about the contest will gain you 10 more, filing your taxes will get you a whopping 100 entries, etc.

The complete list of ways you can gain entries is below:

  • Sign up for the contest mailing list – form above (required)1 entry
  • Subscribe to the Money Crashers RSS feed via email – form above – 20 entries
  • Comment on any Money Crashers blog posts – 3 entries for every comment (note: only useful comments that add to the conversation will be counted – 5 comments per day limit)
  • Write a blog post about the Money Crashers 2010 Online Tax Filing Giveaway – 30 entries (3 limit)
  • Follow @MoneyCrashers on Twitter – 15 entries
  • Tweet out the following message – “Win a free Apple iPad just for filing your taxes online! @MoneyCrashers 2010 Online Tax Filing Giveaway http://bit.ly/c8iKSU #moneycrashers” – 10 entries (1 per week limit)
  • Email this post to a friend using the link provided here:

    [email_link] 5 entries each (10 limit)

  • File your taxes online by April 15th using one of our links to the 3 tax filing services (TurboTax, TaxACT, H&R Block At Home). Once you’ve done that, forward the tax return confirmation email to us at mc [at] moneycrashers [dot] com. That way we’ll be able to credit you properly with 100 entries. If you have happen to have filed your taxes online prior to this Giveaway, just forward us your confirmation e-mail and you will still receive the 100 entries..

4. Random draw for all prizes on April 16, 2010.

A random draw will be held for all prizes on Friday, April 16th. The chances of you winning depends on the number of entries you accumulate as well as the number of entries held by all of the participants.

There, we’ve given you something to look forward to when filing your taxes this year. Now get moving.

Good luck!

Note: Since we will be keeping track of all the entries, you do not need to e-mail us or comment on this post telling us what actions you have performed (other than forwarding us your tax return confirmation email).

Awesome, a new contest! And I really love the prizes. However, what about those users who didn’t wait around and have already filed their taxes through one of the required online tax filing services (TurboTax/TaxAct/HRBlock)?
I just filed my taxes via TurboTax (Deluxe) the other day. Could you either allow early filers to gain the 100 entries, or drastically reduce or eliminate that part of the contest? Thanks!

    • Andrew (Admin)

We’ve just updated the Giveaway details to state the following:

“If you have happen to have filed your taxes online prior to this Giveaway, just forward us your confirmation e-mail and you will still receive credit. Anyone who files after 2/23/10 (the launch date of this Giveaway), however, must use one of our links to file in order to receive the 100 entries.”

Thank you so much this couldnt have come at a better time of the year.

  • Cwaltz

I, too already filed my taxes. Oh well, I used the IRS to complete my return so I doubt I would have been eligible anyway.

    Cool Contest though.

    Thanx for the contest!

  • Barbara Marlow

Well even though I already did my taxes via H&R Block online more than a week ago I went ahead and forwarded the email so I am hoping that will count for a hundred entries!!

I found doing my taxes myself online was so easy….I would definitely recommend it and I will continue to do it in the future. And I saved so much money doing it that way rather than going to H&R Block in person as I have done in the past.

    • http://madsaver.com Mac

Good call, never thought of that! I’ll forward my email from TurboTax as well. And I agree, filing online is the way to go…have been doing it for years and get just as much back if I would have gone to H&R Block.

  • Margaret Smith

    What a awesome contest.
Thank you so much for offering this wonderful giveaway.

Wish I knew about this before I filed. Guess it doesn’t count if I used H & R Block without using the link?

    • Andrew (Admin)

      Hey David,

No worries. We just updated the contest details to state the following:

“If you have happen to have filed your taxes prior to this Giveaway, just forward us your confirmation e-mail and you will still receive credit. Anyone who files after 2/23/10 (the launch date of this Giveaway), however, must use one of our links to file in order to receive the 100 entries.”

  • Nikki

I signed up! :) Hope I win; this is a great contest!

  • Jon C

Me too… Filing taxes are much easier now thanks to this great contest. Hooray.

  • Chris

Awesome contest – this is great for those who already file taxes online, and encourages others who don’t to give it a try.

  • Jon C

Wow! Where is everyone else? Only 18 posts. I guess better chance for 18 of us.

    • http://madsaver.com Mac

If you noticed the jump in subscribers 350+ in 1 day, there are a few more people than 18 interested in this contest…unfortunately for us! :) But a few less than that will add to all the vibrant discussions on finance on the site. The main point is to get people discussing financial topics brought up in the blogs, so we all win.

  • Stephen Govenar

Cool, thanks for the contest. I usually use tax software on my computer though, so I probably won’t do the online thing.

  • Karmella

I guess I’m surprised that there isn’t a steeper discount for doing it all online (if there’s any discount, the Turbo Tax looks like the same pricing to me). I know a CD and some packaging isn’t the most expensive to produce, but it seems like there’d be a break for going all online.

I’m still sketched out about letting all that info be stored by a company – I feel so old school!!

  • http://www.3merrywidows.com Ann

Turbo Tax is the way to go! It does all the figuring, you just put in your info and answer questions.

    Thanks for an informative site.

    A few questions:

I filed my taxes with TurboTax some weeks ago but threw away my confirmation email (didn’t think I would still need it). Is there a way to still get the 100 extra entries without it?

Can I receive the 20 entries for already being a loyal subscriber to the feed? Pretty please? :-D

For those who were asking where to forward the confirmation email, it is:

You should be able to find it elsewhere on this page. (Replace the parts in [ ] with the @ or period. This helps prevent them from receiving too much spam.)

      Dear Friend,

Greetings in the name of God,Pls let this not sound strange to you for my only surviving lawyer who would have done this died early this year.

I am Mrs Faith Mathew from Switzerland,I am 58 years old,i am suffering from a long time cancer of the breast which also affected my brain, from all indication my conditions is really deteriorating and it is quite obvious that, according to my doctors they have advised me that i may not live for the next two months, this is because the cancer stage has gotten to a very bad stage.

I was brought up from a motherless babies home, and was married to my late husband Mr Chris Mathew who worked in our emabassy in Cote D’iviore (Ivory Coast) for twenty years without a child ,my husband died in a fatal motor accident Before his death we were true Christians.Since his death I decided not to re-marry,I sold all my inherited belongings and deposited all the sum of Four Million Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars (USD$4.5,00,000.00).
Presently, this money is still with the Bank and the management just wrote me as the true owner to come forward to receive the money for keeping it so long or rather issue a letter of authorization to somebody to receive it on my behalf since I can not come over because of my illness or they get it confisticated.
Presently, I’m writing you with my laptop in a hospital , where I have been undergoing treatment for cancer of the breast. I have since lost my ability to talk and my doctors have told me that I have only a few months to live.It is my last wish to see that this money is invested into any organisation of your choice and distributed each year among the charity organization, the poor and the motherless babies home.

I want you as God fearing person, to also use this money to fund churches or mosques, orphanages and widows,I took this decision, before i rest in peace because my time will so on be up.
As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the Bank where the inherited fund is.I will also issue you a letter of authority that will prove you as the new beneficiary of my fund. Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I stated herein.

Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I stated herein. Hoping to hear from you soon.
To enable me write an Authorization Letter to the bank that will proove you as the new beneficiary of the funds
Waiting for your reply Please in my email ([email protected])

      Best Regard,
      Mrs Faith Mathew

I’ve filed taxes using software for more than 10 years. Most of them have been with Turbo Tax because I like the transfer from Quicken. Sometimes I double check them with one of the others.

Years ago I started using H&R Block online after getting some kind of discount on their service and haven’t switched since. I think they have a great interface and there are always professionals available if you need them, plus they check your return to ensure accuracy. I hope everyone got a refund this year!

the bad thing about tax software is that they try to get you by advertising federal tax e-filing as free but they get you pretty hard with the state…

dont forget to write off your tax software if you purchased it on your taxes…take anything you can get from the gov’t just like how they tax you anyway they can…
