Get the Bread Cashback® American Express® Credit Card if you want 2% back on every purchase, at home or abroad, with neither an annual fee nor a foreign transaction fee. Keep a Visa or Mastercard as a backup for the stores that don’t take American Express.
Comenity Capital Bank, part of Bread Financial, issues the card on the American Express network. Someone who charges $1,500 a month to it earns $360 a year, by our math, with no annual fee to subtract.

Travelers get the most from it, since purchases abroad earn 2% with no fee added, and a no-foreign-fee Visa or Mastercard can cover the stores that don’t take Amex. For spending at home, the Wells Fargo Active Cash Card pays the same 2% and adds a sign-up bonus and a 0% intro APR, but it charges a 3% fee on foreign transactions.
