Most travel insurance is designed to react. Something goes wrong, you file a claim, you wait. Faye is built around a different proposition: that good travel protection should help things go right in the first place, not just pick up the pieces afterward.

Launched in 2022 by avid travelers and insurance industry veterans, Faye describes itself as whole-trip travel protection — coverage and care that follows you from the moment you book through the day you check out. Named a TIME Best Invention of 2025, the product is built around a mobile app that tracks your itinerary in real time, sends proactive alerts before disruptions hit, and connects you to human support specialists around the clock. When something does go wrong, claims are filed digitally and approved reimbursements land in your phone’s digital wallet. The underlying insurance is underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company and Great American Insurance Group, both rated A+ by A.M. Best as of 2025.

Coverage and Covered Events

Faye’s base plan covers three areas: your health, your trip, and your stuff. The limits below reflect an international plan purchased at least three days before departure. Benefits and availability vary by state.

Emergency Medical Coverage

Emergency medical expenses can be covered up to $250,000 for trips abroad on a primary basis, meaning you do not have to file with your personal health insurance first. Emergency medical evacuation is covered up to $500,000. Both are high limits for a base plan that do not require upgrading to a premium tier to access.

International plans include access to a global telemedicine network of 20,000-plus doctors through a partnership with Air Doctor, available throughout your trip.

Trip Coverage

Trip cancellation can reimburse up to 100% of non-refundable trip costs for covered reasons including illness or injury of the insured, a family member, or a travel companion; inclement weather; travel supplier default; pregnancy complications; traffic accidents; terrorist incidents; military duty; involuntary job loss; felonious assault; subpoena or jury duty; mandatory evacuation due to natural disaster; and documented theft of passport.

Trip interruption covers up to 150% of non-refundable trip costs, accounting for both the unused portion of your trip and any additional transportation expenses needed to return home or rejoin the journey.

Trip delay coverage kicks in after six or more hours for a covered reason, reimbursing up to $2,100 per trip (capped at $300 per day) for meals, lodging, and local transportation.

Additional trip protections include:

  • Trip inconvenience: $200 per covered inconvenience (flight cancellation, diversion, rental home lockout), capped at $600 per trip
  • Missed connection: up to $200 for covered delays of three or more hours
  • Non-medical emergency evacuation: up to $100,000 for natural disasters, political emergencies, or security events abroad
  • Pre-existing medical condition coverage for trip cancellation or interruption, if purchased within 14 days of your initial trip deposit and if you’re medically able to travel at the time of purchase

Baggage and Personal Belongings

Lost, stolen, or damaged luggage and personal items are reimbursed up to $2,000 per trip, capped at $150 per item. Baggage delay coverage can provide up to $300 for delays of 12 or more hours. Lost or stolen passports are covered up to $50 toward replacement costs.

The in-app Safekeeping feature lets you store digital copies of your passport, visa, reservations, and other important documents, accessible offline even if your phone is lost or stolen.

Optional Add-Ons

Faye’s add-on model lets you tailor coverage to each specific trip rather than paying for a bundled tier you may not fully need.

  • Rental car care: up to $50,000 for collision, vandalism, natural disaster, or theft
  • Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR): up to 75% of non-refundable costs; must purchase within 14 days of initial deposit and cancel at least 48 hours before departure; not available in all states
  • Pet care: up to $2,500 in veterinary expenses and up to $250 for kenneling if your return is delayed
  • Vacation rental damage protection: up to $3,000 for accidental damage to a rental property
  • Adventure and extreme sports: up to $250,000 for medical emergency expenses related to covered activities including skydiving, bungee jumping, and cliff diving

The pet care add-on deserves a specific mention. Coverage for a pet’s veterinary expenses during a trip, or kenneling costs when a return is delayed, is genuinely uncommon in the travel insurance market and useful for travelers who bring animals along.

Pricing

Faye prices policies based on destination, trip length, total trip cost, number of travelers, and selected add-ons. Domestic trips start around $4.64 per day and international trips around $5.16 per day for a 14-day journey. Actual premiums vary based on factors including traveler age and trip cost, so it is worth running a quote through the website or app rather than extrapolating from those starting figures.

Faye does not offer annual multi-trip plans yet. Each policy covers a single trip. Frequent travelers who take multiple trips per year may find an annual plan from a provider like Allianz more cost-effective. For occasional travelers or those who prefer to tailor coverage trip by trip, the per-policy model works well.

The Faye App

Where traditional travel insurance hands you a policy document and a phone number, Faye is designed to be present throughout your trip. The app tracks your itinerary in real time and gets ahead of disruptions before they become problems, alerting you to delays, gate changes, and baggage carousel assignments as they happen rather than leaving you to find out at the airport.

When your flight is delayed three or more hours, the app automatically unlocks complimentary airport lounge access. If you need medical guidance abroad, it connects you to the Air Doctor telemedicine network to chat with a doctor virtually. If something is lost or goes wrong, you file a claim directly through the app, upload your documentation, and receive approved reimbursements in your Faye Wallet. Simply add your Faye travel card to your phone’s digital wallet and tap and pay to use the funds immediately. Throughout all of it, human support specialists are available 24/7 by phone, chat, or email, nights, weekends, and holidays included. Multiple customer reviews specifically call out reaching a real, helpful person in the middle of the night or over a holiday weekend.

Advantages

  1. High medical coverage limits on the base plan. $250,000 for emergency medical expenses and $500,000 for emergency medical evacuation without needing to upgrade to a higher tier.
  2. Proactive whole-trip protection. Real-time alerts, itinerary tracking, and 24/7 support mean Faye is actively working to keep your trip on track, not just waiting for a claim.
  3. Fast, paperless claims. Digital filing and Faye Wallet reimbursement are meaningfully faster than the traditional approach used by most legacy insurers.
  4. Genuine 24/7 human support. Phone, email, and in-app chat with real people, any hour, any day.
  5. Flexible add-on structure. Targeted coverage additions without forcing you into a higher-priced tier you may not need.
  6. Strong underwriter ratings. Both carriers are rated A+ by A.M. Best as of 2025.
  7. Generous trip interruption coverage. Up to 150% of non-refundable trip costs covers unused trip costs and additional return transportation expenses.

Disadvantages

  1. No annual multi-trip plans. Each policy covers one trip, which can add up for frequent travelers compared to annual options at competing providers.
  2. Low per-item baggage limit. The $150 per-item cap may leave travelers with high-value equipment underprotected.
  3. Not available to U.S. territory residents. Faye is currently unavailable to residents of Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
  4. Must purchase before departure. You cannot buy coverage after your trip has begun. That said, this is standard for the majority of travel insurance providers.

Final Word

Faye is a strong choice for travelers who want more than a policy that sits dormant until something goes wrong. The combination of high base-plan emergency medical limits, a genuinely capable app, a proactive approach to disruptions, fast digital claims, and around-the-clock human support makes it one of the more complete travel protection products available to U.S. travelers today.

For the occasional to moderate traveler heading abroad, Faye delivers something the legacy travel insurance market has rarely offered: protection that is actively on your side from the moment you book to the moment you get home.
