Get the Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card if groceries, dining, entertainment, and streaming are a big share of your spending. It pays 3% cash back on all four with no cap and charges no annual fee. If your spending is spread across other things, choose a card that pays one flat rate on everything instead.
The Savor is a Capital One cash back card for applicants with excellent credit, and students can apply for their own version, the Savor Rewards for Students. It was the SavorOne until October 2024, when it took the name of an annual-fee Savor that Capital One stopped offering.
Key Features
- $0 annual fee and no foreign transaction fee on purchases made abroad
- 3% back at grocery stores (not superstores or warehouse clubs) and on dining, entertainment, and streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu, plus 1% on everything else
- 8% on tickets bought through Capital One Entertainment and 5% on hotel, vacation rental, and rental car bookings made through Capital One Travel, two sites Capital One runs
- $200 bonus after $500 in purchases in the first 3 months, unless you’ve earned this card’s bonus in the past 48 months
- 12 months at a 0% intro interest rate (APR) on purchases and on balances moved from other cards (moving one costs 3% of the amount), then a variable rate of 18.74%, 24.74%, or 28.74%, depending on your credit
Pros
- No cap on how much 3% cash back you can earn
- No annual fee to earn back
- Cash back that doesn’t expire while the account is open, paid in any amount as a credit on your bill or a check
- A full year at 0% to pay down a big purchase or a balance moved from another bank’s card
Cons
- Only 1% on gas and everything else outside the four 3% categories
- Groceries from superstores like Walmart and Target, warehouse clubs, discount stores, gas stations, or convenience stores earn 1%
- The 8% and 5% rates apply only on those two sites
- You can’t move balances over from other Capital One cards
By our math, with the rest of your spending earning 1%, the Savor beats a no-fee card paying a flat 1.5% once its 3% categories pass a quarter of your spending. Below that share, Capital One’s no-fee Quicksilver, at 1.5% on every purchase, earns more than the Savor’s mix of 3% and 1%.
