Get the Citi Strata Premier Card if your household spends heavily at restaurants, supermarkets, and gas stations and you’ll transfer points to airlines. For $95 a year, it pays triple points in those categories and on airfare and hotels. If you’d rather not manage points, a flat-rate cash back card is simpler.
The points are Citi ThankYou points, which you can spend on trips booked through the Citi Travel site or move to airline and hotel loyalty programs. Citi converted Expedia+ Voyager accounts to the Citi Premier in 2022 and renamed it the Strata Premier in 2024, so a Voyager cardholder who kept the converted card now carries the Strata Premier.
Key Features
- $95 annual fee and no foreign transaction fee
- 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 within your first 3 months, worth $600 in Citi Travel bookings
- 10 points per dollar on Citi Travel bookings of hotels, car rentals, and attractions; 3 points on air travel, hotels booked elsewhere, restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations, and electric-vehicle charging; 1 point on everything else, with no cap in any category
- $100 off one hotel stay booked through Citi Travel each calendar year
- Variable interest rate of 19.74% to 27.74% on purchases and balance transfers
Pros
- Takeout and delivery earn the restaurant rate
- Transfers to 15 airline and five hotel programs, with every airline but Emirates at 1 mile per point
- The $100 hotel discount covers the $95 fee, with $5 to spare, if you book one qualifying stay a year
- Trip delay, cancellation, lost luggage, and rental car coverage, which pays after your own insurance
Cons
- Points are worth 1 cent each through Citi Travel, so getting more than that means transferring them
- Only 1 point per dollar outside the bonus categories
- Warehouse clubs and discount stores don’t earn the supermarket or gas bonus
- The hotel discount requires a prepaid stay costing at least $500 before taxes and fees
Apply if restaurants, supermarkets, and gas stations account for much of your card spending and you’ll book flights with transferred points. If the $95 fee is the sticking point, the no-fee Citi Strata Card is the step down, though it pays 2 points per dollar on dining instead of 3.
