The Comcast Breach Settlement Pays About $50 – Claim It by September 14

Just the Tip:

If Comcast told you your data was exposed in the October 2023 breach, you have until September 14 to file a claim. The no-receipt option pays an estimated $50. Document real losses and you can claim more. File at comcastbreachsettlement.com and check your eligibility with the ID lookup tool.

The class is defined by one thing, and it isn’t whether you’re still a customer. If Comcast sent you a breach notice on or around December 18, 2023, you’re in it.

The underlying incident was an October 2023 cybersecurity failure in which a third party gained unauthorized access to customer personal information. Comcast denies wrongdoing, which is standard language in a settlement and changes nothing about your claim.

This one is further along than most of the settlements circulating online. The court granted final approval on August 20, so the $117.5 million fund is no longer waiting on a judge. One benefit needs no claim at all. Every class member was issued an enrollment code for identity defense and restoration services, usable once the settlement is final, and most people never redeem theirs.

There are two claim paths on one form. The Alternative Cash Payment asks for no proof and is estimated at $50, though that figure adjusts pro rata with the number of people who file. The other path reimburses documented out-of-pocket losses and lost time, which earns its paperwork only if you can show actual fraud, monitoring bills, or hours spent cleaning up. Either way the form lives at comcastbreachsettlement.com, and the ID lookup tool there tells you in seconds whether your name is on the notice list. Online submissions and mailed forms both have to be in by Monday, September 14.

One thing to carry with you. Nobody legitimate charges a fee to file a settlement claim, and the only site that can accept yours is the one the court authorized. If a search result asks for payment to process your claim, you are on the wrong page.
