Get the Target Circle™ Credit Card if you shop at Target often and pay your bill in full every month. It takes 5% off most purchases at Target stores and Target.com and charges no annual fee. Carry a balance, though, and two months of interest at its 28.20% rate costs about as much as the discount saves.
The Target Circle Credit Card is a store card for regular Target shoppers, issued by TD Bank, which considers applicants first for the Target Mastercard and then for this card if they don’t qualify for it. The Mastercard also works outside Target, where it earns 2% on dining and gas and 1% on other purchases.
Key Features
- 5% off most purchases at Target stores and Target.com, taken at checkout
- No annual fee, a 28.20% variable annual percentage rate (APR), and a late fee of up to $41
- 30 extra days for returns, so most items can go back within 120 days
- Target Circle 360, Target’s paid delivery membership, at $49 a year instead of $99 once the card is saved to your Target account
- $50 in Target Circle Rewards to spend at Target, after $50 of qualifying purchases within 60 days of approval
Pros
- Takes $5 off every $100 at Target, $3 more than a flat 2% card earns there
- Stacks on top of deals from Target Circle, Target’s free loyalty program
- Free shipping on Target.com orders under $35, which otherwise carry a $5.99 shipping fee
- 5% off restaurant and travel gift cards sold at Target
Cons
- Accepted only at Target, in stores and online
- A balance carried two months runs up about as much interest as the checkout discount saves
- No discount on prescriptions, Target GiftCards, or prepaid Visa, Mastercard, and American Express cards
Shoppers who pay in full keep the whole 5%, and anyone who’d pay for Target Circle 360 saves another $50 a year on the membership. If you’d carry a balance, the Target Circle Debit Card gives the same 5% off and draws each purchase straight from your checking account, so there’s no interest.
