Get the Truist Enjoy Cash Credit Card if you bank with Truist, since depositing your cash back there adds a 10% to 50% loyalty bonus. Take the 1.5% option if your balances earn a 40% bonus or more, enough to beat a no-fee 2% card, and otherwise the 3% and 2% option for gas, groceries, and utilities.
The Enjoy Cash is Truist’s no-annual-fee cash back card, and you don’t need a Truist account to apply. SunTrust’s Cash Rewards and Prime Rewards cards ended after SunTrust and BB&T merged into Truist in 2019, and Truist now offers this card for cash back and its no-fee Enjoy Travel card for miles.
Key Features
- No annual fee or foreign transaction fee
- 3% back on gas and EV charging, 2% on groceries and utilities, and 1% on the rest, with the 3% and 2% rates limited to the first $1,000 of those purchases each month
- Or 1.5% back on every eligible purchase, with no cap, if you choose that option when you apply
- A 10% to 50% loyalty bonus on cash back deposited into a Truist account, reaching 40% at $50,000 in combined Truist balances for Truist One Checking customers
- 0% interest for 12 months on purchases and on balances transferred within 90 days of opening the account (3% fee, $10 minimum), then a variable rate of 18.99% to 27.99%
Pros
- A 40% or 50% loyalty bonus lifts the 1.5% option to 2.1% or 2.25% back
- 3.3% back on gas and EV charging with even the base 10% loyalty bonus
- Phone, cable, and streaming bills count as utilities at 2%
Cons
- No welcome bonus
- Your earning option can’t be changed after you apply
- Only 1% on other purchases with the 3% and 2% option, half what a flat 2% card pays
- Not offered in California, Iowa, Nevada, New York, Utah, or Vermont, per the latest card survey by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
Truist customers should take the 1.5% option if their balances earn a 40% or 50% bonus, and otherwise the 3% and 2% option for gas, groceries, and utilities, paired with a flat 2% card for everything else. For everyone else, a no-fee flat 2% cash back card pays at least as much as the Enjoy Cash on everything but gas.
