United Club Card Review – Worth $695 If You’d Buy a Club Membership Anyway

United Club Card
Our Rating
4/5

United Club Card

  • Best for: Frequent United flyers who would pay for a United Club membership anyway
  • What Sets It Apart: United Club membership for you and one adult guest; 5 miles per $1 on United purchases; 1 Premier qualifying point per $15 spent
  • Cost: $695 annual fee; 19.99% to 28.49% variable APR; no foreign transaction fees
  • Features: Up to 100,000 bonus miles; free first and second checked bags for you and a companion; priority check-in, security, and boarding; $875-plus in yearly partner credits
  • Pros: $695 fee, $55 a year less than United’s $750 club membership; most miles on United purchases of any United card; best elite-status earning rate of any personal United card
  • Cons: Credits tied to a handful of partners; Star Alliance lounges only with Premier Gold status or $50,000 in yearly spending; authorized users need you to enter clubs

Just the Tip:

Get the United Club Card only if you’d pay for a United Club membership anyway. Its $695 annual fee is $55 less than United’s $750 membership, which admits no guest, and the card adds free checked bags for you and a companion. If you fly United a few times a year, pick the United Explorer Card instead.

The United Club Card, aimed at frequent United flyers, is the priciest of Chase’s four personal United cards and the only one with a United Club lounge membership. If you know it as the United Club Infinite Card, it’s the same card under a shorter name.

Key Features

  • $695 annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, and a 19.99% to 28.49% variable interest rate (APR)
  • Up to 100,000 bonus miles, 90,000 after $5,000 in purchases and 10,000 for adding an authorized user (a second cardholder), both in the first 3 months
  • 5 miles per $1 on United purchases, 2 on other travel and on dining, and 1 on everything else
  • United Club membership for you, one adult guest, and your children under 18
  • Free first and second checked bags for you and a companion on United tickets bought with the card, plus priority check-in, security, and boarding

Pros

  • Its $695 fee is $55 a year less than United’s $750 club membership, which admits no guest
  • More miles on United purchases than any other United card
  • 1 Premier qualifying point (PQP) toward United elite status per $15 spent, the fastest rate of any personal United card, plus 1,500 bonus PQP each year after your first
  • A sign-up bonus we value at up to $1,200, using NerdWallet’s estimate of 1.2 cents a mile

Cons

  • Its $875-plus in yearly credits covers only Instacart, rideshares, JSX flights, Avis or Budget rentals, and prepaid stays through Chase’s Renowned Hotels and Resorts program, and the Instacart credits end after 2027
  • No access to lounges of United’s Star Alliance partner airlines until you earn Premier Gold status or charge $50,000 a year to the card
  • Authorized users can use United Clubs only when traveling with you

Open the United Club Card if United is your main airline and you’d pay $750 for a club membership anyway. If you fly United only a few times a year, the $150 United Explorer Card or $350 United Quest Card fits better, and if you’re buying for a business, look at the United Club Business Card.
