Plastic Jungle Review – Discount Gift Cards Exchange to Buy, Sell, Trade & Swap

Plastic Jungle

plastic jungle logoSince their inception, gift cards have become quite popular. Buying a gift card is much easier than shopping for an actual gift and allows the recipient to choose something that he or she really wants. However, if you’re not lucky enough to get a generic-type card that is good anywhere (i.e. best gift cards to give), what are you supposed to do with unwanted gift cards for places where you don’t, or wouldn’t, spend your money?

Well, I have great news for you. A website called Plastic Jungle will solve your problem. At Plastic Jungle, you can sell your unwanted gift cards, and you can also buy gift cards at a discount. The payout for sold gift cards can be as much as 92% of the value of the card.

I’ve received more than a few gift cards that I had no interest in redeeming. Rather than buy something I don’t want or need, or worse letting the gift cards expire, I’ve used Plastic Jungle with great success to get the cash I need.

How It Works

The process is pretty simple if you’re looking to sell your unwanted gift cards:

  1. For any of your unwanted gift cards, enter the name of the merchant and the amount on the card. If you’re not sure of how much is left on it, they will verify this for you. Once you enter in this information, the next screen will tell you how much you can get for your card.
  2. You have several payout options including Amazon gift card, Paypal, and check. The Amazon gift card option usually pays out more than the others. After you’ve made your selection, you will have to enter your name and address so they know where to send your money.
  3. Then, enter in the number on the gift card and the PIN if there is one, so they can verify the balance on the card.
  4. After that, simply follow the shipping instructions.

And that’s it! You are guaranteed to receive your payout in less than two weeks. During my experiences with the site, the payout is generally much faster than that.

Features and Benefits

There are a lot of advantages to using Plastic Jungle. In addition to having an outlet for unwanted gift cards, you also have the ability to buy gift cards as well. Some gift cards are sold at a discount of up to thirty percent. Keep Plastic Jungle in mind if you ever need to buy a gift card for someone.

Also, another tip is to save money at your favorite retailers by buying gift cards at Plastic Jungle for personal use. For example, my son and I love to eat at California Pizza Kitchen. On Plastic Jungle, I’ve purchased gift cards to that restaurant at a 10% discount. In addition to all the other great ways to save money when eating out, I now have a built in 10% discount every time I go to CPK.

Some of the other features and benefits of Plastic Jungle are:

  • Free shipping (both ways) – Plastic Jungle pays for you to ship your unwanted card to them, and you don’t pay a shipping fee on the payment they send to you.
  • Simple Process – As outlined above, you can complete your transactions in as little as a few minutes.
  • Payout Options – Get your money in cash sent directly to you, through PayPal (a faster alternative), or improve your redemption amount by taking it in the form of an Amazon gift card.
  • Safe and Secure Transactions – Everything on the site is safe, secure, and guaranteed.
  • Electronic Option – Some of the gift cards that they offer for sale can actually be sent to you electronically – they just send you the redemption code that you can use online.
  • Option to Donate – In addition to all the other redemption options, you can also choose to donate your unwanted gift card to an organization or charity of your choice.
  • Gift Card Replacement Protection – Plastic Jungle offers gift card replacement protection for damaged or invalid gift cards.

Plastic Jungle vs. The Competition

Just to see how Plastic Jungle stacks up with the competition, I’ve done a little price comparison. I currently have a gift card for a particular retailer that I will not be using. The value of the gift card is $50.

I entered in my information on Plastic Jungle, and received the following quote:  $36.75 in cash, or $38.33 as an Amazon gift card. Then, I went to one of their competitors and entered in the same information. However, their offer was $35 in cash and $36.50 on an Amazon gift card.

Plastic Jungle beat them by over 4%. The savings won’t be huge for me, but if you have multiple gift cards to sell, or gift cards with large balances, I’d say you’d definitely benefit from using Plastic Jungle over other similar sites out there.

It was difficult to find anything negative or unattractive about Plastic Jungle. However, one thing that I did notice is that the minimum amounts on gift cards for sale are a little high. So, if you need a smaller gift for someone and just want to get them a $25 gift card, your choices at Plastic Jungle are fairly limited.

Also, something to be aware of: any gift card that you want to sell must have a balance of at least $25. They do not accept gift cards with any less than $25.

Final Word

I have used Plastic Jungle several times in the past and have always been satisfied with my experience. Their process is fast and easy, and everything is safe, secure, and guaranteed.  And, they seem to clearly beat the competition.

So now, instead of being stuck with a gift card for a place you’d never go to or buy from, you have a way to get what you really want.

Hmm. I’d ordered a kit from Cardwoo, but now Plastic Jungle sounds tempting.

It truly is a great option.

      Thanks for commenting

So I tried Plastic Jungle. My $25 gift card became $19.50 instantly in my Paypal account. Awesome.

No luck here, Tried to sell them some cards…the order was cancelled, but they gave no explanation why.

      Cardwoo handling faster!!!

  • Mami2jcn

I trade gift cards at Plastic Jungle all the time. It works great for Amazon credit. I like the fact that they pay for postage.

Was there a giveaway with this post that I missed?

    • David Bakke

I love the potential associated with Plastic Jungle.

Looks like there is a giveaway associated with this article–I hope you win!!

      Thanks for joining the conversation.

  • gina

I think that this is a great idea! I wish I had this option a few years ago when I moved and could no longer use gift cards for stores that were too far away for me to frequent.

  • Laure

Love the concept of PlasticJungle. I wish they had smaller denominations available also…
    Thanks for the giveaway!

    • KCatPlasticJungle

      Hi Laure,
With our Instant Payout option, we will accept gift cards with a balance as little as $10 … hope that helps :-)

  • Linda Fish

I have never heard of this type of service before today, its good to keep in mind for some of those old unused gift cards

  • One Frugal Girl

I’ve purchased a number of gift cards and never experienced any problems. It’s a great way to save a few dollars on every day purchases. I’ve never sold gift cards, but I have considered it. I wish they also had the ability for members to swap cards with one another for a small fee.

  • vickie couturier

This is the first ive heard of a place like this, very interesting site, ive been paying someone to put mine on ebay but this sounds like I would get more an could do it myself, thanks

  • judyyy

I have looked at the site before but have not used it. However, I won a gift card I am not going to be able to use and may try this. Thanks for the info and the chance to win.

  • Elizabeth W

I have never visited Plastic Jungle but i am right now! It sounds like a great site. I really hope to find a great gift card for cheap! what a great frugal site for this frugal mom!

  • Mike

I had been hesitant to use this but after hearing so many good things I think I’m going to give it a shot.

  • Kevin Vesga

Do Plastic Jungle’s competitors have similar requirements for minimum balance? I once got a gift card for Target but it was only $15. Had it been for a store that was of no use to me then I would be stuck. That said I rarely get gift cards so I am fortunate. I will however keep Plastic Jungle in mind.

    • KCatPlasticJungle

      Hi Kevin,
Just wanted to quickly let you know that with our Instant Payout option we will accept gift cards with balance as low as $10… hope that helps :-) a

  • Lori A.

This sounds like something I would like to try! I have a $50 gift card for a store that shut down around here. I’m going to check this out!

  • Henria O.

I usually use eBay to sell unwanted gift cards but I will definitely be using Plastic Jungle from now on. I like that they don’t collect extra fees off of the selling value of the card!

  • Deanna

I’m a gift card junkie so I know I could get a lot of use out of a web site like Plastic Jungle. ;) Thanks for the giveaway! :)

  • Heather D.

I have wondered about plastic jungle but have never used it. I will probably check it out now that I know it’s legit. For those folks who have smaller balances, I would check out coupon trading forums. There are usually categories for you to sell your gift cards that have smaller balances. Also, Ebay works too, and you get your money instantly in your paypal account when it sells

  • Kristy OT

I’ve had trouble in the past finding what I wanted at plastic jungle. The selection looks to be much better now that it’s right after Christmas, so maybe I’ll try again in the future.

  • Lacy

I like the concept of this a lot – and especially that they give you amazon credit, since there’s always pretty much something at Amazon that I want to buy.

I don’t like that they don’t accept smaller value gift cards though, as that’s usually what I end up accumulating a lot of – small amounts to places like Starbucks, etc, that I’d happily swap for Amazon credit and that usually end up unused in a desk drawer.

    • KCatPlasticJungle

      Hi Lacy,
Just a quick note to let you know that we do in fact accept gift cards with a balance as low as $10 through our Instant Payout option… Also, most retailers in most states are required to give you cash back when the balance on the card is less than $10. Hope that helps :-)

  • maria

I had never heard about plastic jungle but after reading all about it on your site I will sure try it out . Sounds fantastic.

  • Stewart

I’ve used plastic jungle, mostly to sell unwanted GC. Recently I used it to buy a couple of GC. Couldn’t be happier with my experience on both types of transations.

  • Susan Laura

We were just talking about this website yesterday and wondered about it’s safety and reliability. Thanks for answering all our questions!

  • Anissa

I haven’t tried it, but I’ve heard good things about it on other blogs I’ve read.

  • Kasey

I sold a Bloomingdales card there last year – it was from a return I’d made and it ended up being like $175.81. I didn’t want the hassle of eBay, and I eventually heard about Plastic Jungle and decided to give them a try. I got about 80% of the value, which was a lot better than trying to remember to bring the card with me and use it. They paid the postage and I got a $$ – it was a smooth process, although it might be a little more of a pain if you don’t have a printer to print out the postage label.

  • Barbara Marlow

I had never heard of Plastic Jungle. But for the heck of it, I typed in the name of a merchant as I have had a gift card for a year and still haven’t used it. Unfortunately, they don’t accept it (it is The Avenue). So perhaps I will try selling it to someone at work who loves and frequents the store often.

    • KCatPlasticJungle

      Hi Barbara,
I’ll check in with the team and see if this is a merchant we might be able to add to our list… stay tuned :-)

  • Jacob LaFountaine

I haven’t used them yet. I wish there was more store merchants to choose from

  • Danica

It sounds awesome, I haven’t used it before, but I will certainly try it out instead of visiting the gift card kiosks at the local CVS or Walmart.

  • Donna Bakke

Wow – one of my friends was just talking about some cards she had that weren’t useful. I’ll be forwarding this article to her!

You mentioned the min purchase is $25, but I actually just purchased a $15 iTunes card (e-certificate) for $13.80 on the site. Combine that 8% discount with a 2% cashback credit card and you’ve got yourself a real (easy) money saver!

  • Karmella

I sold two about a week before the holidays. I compared it with another site, and the payouts were very similar, about 78%. I liked having a few options about how to receive payment (Amazon gc, Paypal, check). I also liked having the postage paid for me – their competitor did not pay the postage but didn’t address it on their site so I called them, and they gave me what sounded like a BS answer as to why they don’t pay postage. Factoring in the postage cost, Plastic Jungle offered the highest amount on the three gift cards that I checked (I ended up selling them two and keeping one).

I highly recommend it – it was really easy and surprisingly quick. I will consider buying from them as well.

  • Elizabeth I

I really like Plastic Jungle and have used them to make a large West Elm purchase. I was so pleased with the process that I scooped up a bunch of Pottery Barn Kid’s gift cards, and got new bedding for my sons at a discount.

  • Gert

I bought a $25 dollar iTunes giftcard on Plastic Jungle and received an email with an eCODE and a blank PIN.

But I no matter how I try to redeem it: directly in iTunes, using it as a giftcard on the Apple website or the Apple website were you can check the balance of a giftcard, it doesn’t get recognized :(

I also can’t get through to Plastic Jungle’s telephone helpdesk or even get a reply by mail.

    Am I missing something?

  • Jessie C.

I trade my unwanted gift cards with Plastic Jungle several times, so far so good. The fact they pay for postage is definitely one of the reason I choose to work with them.

  • Susan

I haven’t used Plastic Jungle yet, but I have bought gift cards on similar sites. I think it’s a great way to save money at the retailers where you shop regularly, because you can combine the gift card savings with coupons and any other promotions the retailer is offering.

  • Michelle

Oh awesome! This is such a much-needed service and turn around time is so fast! I’ll definitely be getting rid of my old cards!

  • Jen D.

This sounds like a good deal. I was aware of a ‘competitor’ but am glad to know that Plastic Jungle is an even better deal.

  • Charity L.

I would love to be entered in this giveaway! I really enjoy reading your posts and now you have a wonderful giveaway. Thanks!

  • David

I used plastic jungle and i can say its easy to use and works well. Its good for giftcards that you will never use.

  • Carson

Don’t have any gift cards laying around right now but will keep this in mind for when I do – thanks for the review and please sign me up for the giveaway!

  • brian

I just recently sold them a gift card. love it.

  • Becky M

Have sold gift cards on plastic jungle before… works great!

  • Bunrath

I’ve sent in my first card, it’s been 14 days now and on the website, it still said ” awaiting for your card”.
There’s many complaint about this website =(
I heard most checks that send back are bounced.

I’ve ordered from GiftCardRescue and CardPool as well as Plastic Jungle. GiftCardRescue and CardPool shipped my purchase immediately. With this one, the order status page stated “Shipping Soon” a week after my purchase. But my credit card had already been charged. When I used their electronic inquiry system, they sent an automated response to my e-mail stating that they were very busy, but did not respond directly to my inquiry. Not a good first experience, and likely the last I’ll have with this company. I’ll stick with GiftCard Rescue and Cardpool.

  • Christina

Plastic Jungle lost my Apple gift card. Every time I call their customer service website it tells me to go online and fill out a form. I have yet to talk with “kyle” direct. They refuse to give me my gift card code back that they used to check validity. They are scam artists, use another website or try ebay. I am at the point of taking legal action to prevent this from happening to anyone further. Please stay away from this company.

  • Keith Moore

I purchased a total of 10 REI gift cards from Plastic Jungle earlier this summer. Exactly half of them (5) had $0 value when I went to use them. Plastic Jungle processed refunds quickly for 4 of them (although they require you to fill in an affidavit, scan and email it – a bit of a hassle compared to, say, a simple online form). I have yet to receive a refund for the 5th card (a $100 card that cost me $83) in spite of submitting the form 2 more times and contacting customer service three times. Highly unimpressed and have no intention of doing business with this merchant again.

  • Geoff

Besides the article being a blatant send-up, some of these responses are also obviously fake: “plasticjungle is the best way to save money”. Call me crazy, but it sounds like someone has some vested interest. Oh, and “i go to the local cvs and wal mart kiosks”. That person? All this makes plasticjungle seem like a big fat SCAM.

  • Marvin&K9

I need to add to this negative stream of reviews for Plastic Jungle. I sold a gift card to Plastic Jungle. I received 2 confirmation emails from PJ telling me to expect payment in Paypal within 2 days, and TO DESTROY MY GIFT CARD. I never received any further communication from PJ, but finally went to the website to check the status and saw that it was “canceled”. I wrote several emails to customer service with no response. I created a login on PJ website and issued a complaint. I finally got a lame response to my complaint. I responded to their response, and the next day I got another identical response TO THE ORIGINAL COMPLAINT, not to my response and further questioning. My second response has not gotten any response from them.

    Very poor customer service.

    • Davidbakke

Its a shame that the rep from Plastic Jungle isn’t paying more attention to this thread to address some of these blatant issues. Thanks for chiming in!

  • Anneb3427

Company is a nightmare to deal with. I want off their email list. So far I have emailed them to no avail, called 4 times and the operators in India have a minimal command of the English language, but most have just disconnected me.

    • Davidbakke

Again, it sounds like they’ve got a lot of work to do regarding customer service

Do not use Plastic Jungle! Here is a breakdown of what happened to me: I sold my gift card to plastic jungle and should have known what I was getting into when they “could not verify the card so please send the card to us and we will verify it upon receipt.” So I sent it in, on a Wednesday, come Monday three business days later, I checked online and saw all the wonderful reviews about the company. And to my luck I became one of the same issues the others have had. On Monday after reading the reviews my order was cancelled. I called the customer service number and was told they could not verify the card. I explained how to verify the card to the customer service rep on the phone how to verify the card using the phone number and card information on the back of the gift card. I was then told to “give them 24hrs to check the information and they will get back to me.” I called to gift card issuer and verified the amount on the card myself. They emailed me to fill out there customer service problem page and explain the issue. I put a step by step process of how to verify the card and told them that I had done the same process and was able to verify the amount. The next day, I checked that balance of the card and nothing had changed. I called back 24hrs later and was told the same thing, unable to verify the card. I told them that I was able to verify that card the day before and before I called them. The man muttered something told me to hold, came back saying that they were able to verify the card and amount. Then I was told the payment and verification would be sent to the next level of the process to be entered manually and that it would take 3-5 business days to issue the payment. I argued and was told 3 days. I was also told that I would receive a confirmation email stating the verification and date of payment. Two days later, still no email I called back. I was told that they could not verify the card. I told them the situation up to that point and was told it would take 24-48hrs to figure out what was going on and that it will be sent up to the next level of the process. I argued and was told I would have an email that night explaining what was going on. Surprise, no email. I called again the next morning, was told they could not verify the card. I told them everything that had happened and was told it would take 3-5 days to figure out the problem. I asked for the person that was over viewing my issue. Put on hold and told the “supervisor” was reviewing my issue. Then was told by the customer service rep, not the supervisor, that the payment will be issued in 3-5 days. At this point I had had enough, I had been told that it was sent the next level so I wanted to speak to the next level to figure out what was going on. Then I was disconnected. I tried to call and call and call again but the customer service line was busy. Luckily I had made scans of the card and reviewed the policy of lost or stolen cards from the issuer. I was able to have the card replace and no longer deal with Plastic Jungle.

Do not use Plastic Jungle! Here is my story – I sold my gift card to plastic jungle and should have known what I was getting into when they “could not verify the card so please send the card to us and we will verify it upon receipt.” So I sent it in via registered mail, three business days later, I checked online and found that my order was canceled. I called the customer service number and was told they could not verify the card. I called the vendor (Williams Sonoma) and verified the gift card amount ($500). I called back 24hrs later and was told the same thing, unable to verify the card. Then I was told the payment and verification would be sent to the next level of the process to be entered manually and that it would take 3-5 business days to issue the payment. I was also told that I would receive a confirmation email stating the verification and date of payment. Two days later, still no email I called back. I received an email with a problem issue number and told the payment was on the way, but still no check. At this point, I asked for my card to be sent back……………… WORST SITE I’VE DEALT WITH!!!

I have tried repeatedly to buy Lowes Gift Cards (not Lowe’s problem) thru Plastic Jungle. I am a snow-bird – AZ to MN. My credit card billed address MN. Wanted card to be forwarded (as all my mail is) to AZ. They couldn’t do it but NEVER told me that so I am waiting & waiting for the gift card. Never came. I called Plastic Jungle – they told me to change my address with MasterCard which I did right away. I tried to place another order — web site still wouldn’t accept. So I tried PayPal — still wouldn’t accept that payment. So I have tried to cancel my credit card at the site and re-enter it — wouldn’t accept a new order. Tried to pay again with PayPal – still wouldn’t happen. Obviously there is something now wrong with my information but all that customer service would say is that my order isn’t getting “captured” and to try again. This is disgusting and could someone please give me the name of a competitor to this horrible outfit!

  • NF

I have had a terrible experience with Plastic Jungle The card never arrived- I had to dispute the transaction through both Paypal and Amex and they still have not credited me in the past 2 months. They do not respond for 4 days at least to any emails and then give you a runaround “pretending” to have credited the Paypal account Once to an account that did not even exist and now supposedly via a transaction that Paypal has never heard of. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

    • Davidbakke

Sorry to hear about your experience, but thanks for sharing…our other readers will appreciate it!

what is the phone number for plastic jungle??? I am trying to resolve with them and cant call…please help

Sorry- Plastic Jungle is a SCAM. I read this article and decided to send them some of my gift cards- I sent 2 different shipments- 1 with a $50 card and 1 with several cards totaling $200. They confirmed receiving all cards, but only paid me for the $50 card. I am now in a seemingly endless go-round with customer service trying to get paid for the remaining cards. What a shame. I feel pretty certain that I am out the $200. Just a word of advice- before you post a glowing review of a company, you should probably do a bit more research- there are complaints ALL OVER the internet about experiences similar to mine.

  • Copter

Plastic Jungle sucks!!! Notice how all the recent praise coincidentally comes at the same time a PJ rep shows up! Also notice how short the positive comments are compared to the detailed complaints! Plastic Jungle always sucked, but has gotten progressively worse over time.

  • Kaycee Williams

Definitely do not use Plastic Jungle. I sold them a $200 gift card back in July. Not only can I not get a response, they have not paid me nor returned my card. I’ve sent numerous requests, but no luck. Avoid these scammers.

  • Jackson_Ewing

One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. Do NOT use them. The service is incredibly horrendous.

  • Tdcjid21120

    • Jennifer

Obvi you work there…good lokking out for pj

  • Raina Forsgren

I used Plastic Jungle to sell some giftcards NEVER AGAIN. Their customer service is a joke, when you call them if nobody answers your asked to leave a message on what sounds like a personal answering machine. After numerous calls over a few months without return phone calls I got fed up and filed a claim with the BBB. I got a return call after only a few hours! I finally got the money owed to me a few days later. Now periodically I get an email from Plastic Jungle stating they are denying my request to sell my giftcards. The odd thing is I haven’t tried to sell them any so i have no idea what they are talking about. Guess I’m black listed from Plastic
